OPSC College Prep Camp

The Orchard Park Soccer Club is proud to announce that we will again hold a College Prep Camp for Select, Premier, and invited Travel players in 2018.  This camp is designed to help the advanced player prepare both physically and mentally for College Level Soccer and the NCAA recruiting process.  Players attending the camp will participate in sessions designed and led by current NCAA coaches.  These sessions will mimic training sessions they conduct with their college teams.  Additionally, each college coach will hold a 30 minute discussion and Q&A with all players.  These sessions are meant to demystify the college recruiting process.  Coaches will explain to players what playing in college is really like, help understand what college coaches look for in potential players, and help players decide whether or not the college soccer experience is something they want to pursue.  College coaches leading the camp include PJ Gondek (Fredonia – Men),  Kevin Brenner (Elmira College – Men), and Nick DeMarsh (Buffalo State College – Women).  This camp will be held on July 17th, 18th, and 19th from 6:00-8:00pm.  The cost of this camp is $85 and will include a practice shirt.  Registration is limited, please register by July 1st.  Please contact boystravelcoord@orchardparksoccer.org with questions and for a full description of the camp.

College Coach 1 – PJ Gondek (Fredonia State Men’s Head Coach)

Gondek has guided the Blue Devils for the past 17 seasons boasting 168-131-30 record making him the winningest coach in Fredonia history. Highlights from his career include multiple SUNYAC titles 2005 and 2007 appearances in the NCAA tournament. Gondek is the coaching director of the Chautauqua County-based affiliate of the Black Watch Southern Tier soccer club (formed in 2009). He teaches classes in the Fredonia Department of Sport Management and Exercise Science. Gondek has received coaching licenses from two organizations.

He has an Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches of America. He also holds a prestigious A license from the United States Soccer Federation.  Most recently he has acquired a National Youth License form US Soccer.

College Coach 2 – Kevin Brenner (Elmira College Men’s Head Coach)

Brenner will begin his first year with the Soaring Eagles in fall of 2017. He comes to Elmira with a wide range of coaching experience at each level of NCAA men’s soccer (I, II & III), with his most recent head coaching responsibilities at Division II Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio.

During his two-year stint with Lake Erie, Brenner amassed a 15-16-6 overall record and helped guide the Storm to back-to-back Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) postseason bids. In 2015, Brenner led Lake Erie to a third-place regular-season finish and the program’s first-ever GLIAC championship appearance.

The 2016 season saw Brenner’s Storm open the year with team’s best start in program history at 5-1-0, before concluding the season with an 8-7-4 record, the second-most victories in single-season program history. Fueling the team’s run were its efforts on defense, as the Storm ranked inside the top-11 in the nation in several statistical categories, including shutouts (3rd), goals-against average (4th), save percentage (9th) and shutout percentage (11th). The 2016 season also saw Lake Erie set the school record for most single-season shutouts. That same year, six of his players received All-GLIAC and All-Tournament Team honors. Additionally, Lake Erie was the only institution to have a freshman receive First-Team accolades.

Prior to his time at Lake Erie, Brenner served as an assistant coach at Division I University at Buffalo from 2014-15. As Buffalo’s top assistant, he developed the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Rookie of the Year and placed eight players on the All-MAC Academic Team. His recruitment and development of several key players was instrumental in setting the stage for back-to-back MAC Tournament appearances in 2015 and 2016. One of the key players during Buffalo’s playoff run was Russell Cicerone, a recruit of Brenner’s, who was selected in the Major League Soccer (MLS) draft by the Portland Timbers.

College Coach 3 – Nick DeMarsh (SUNY Buffalo State College Women’s Head Coach)

Nicholas DeMarsh concluded his 16th season as the head coach of the Buffalo State women’s soccer program in 2017, leading the Bengals to its first-ever SUNYAC Championship and NCAA Championship appearance in 2016.

DeMarsh’s 2016 Bengals set a school-record for wins in a season, finishing 17-1-3 and winning the program’s first conference championship.  In doing so, DeMarsh was named the SUNYAC coach of the year for the second consecutive season, and third time overall.

The Bengals were ranked as high as No. 14 in the country, the highest mark in program history and hosted the NCAA Regional first and second rounds at Coyer Field for the first time in school history.  It was the second-straight year (and second overall) that Buffalo State won the conference regular season title.
