The Orchard Park Soccer Club’s U14 Boys won the coveted “Nordic Cup” soccer tournament played in Burlington, Vermont, on June 17-18. The team won qualifying games against Berkshire Ajax (Massachusetts), LSC Cosmos (New Hampshire) and Capital Soccer Club (Vermont) before defeating Alleycats Berley (New York) in the final.

Strikers Dan Urban, Anthony Rambino, Alex Teijeira and Owen Vincek were impressive all weekend, pressuring opposing defenses. Liam Reynolds, Matt Marusza, Andrew Chow and Patrick Shanahan controlled the midfield and wore down opposing teams with excellent ball possession.

Heading into the final qualifying game, the team found itself needing to win by shutout in order to advance. Nick Marchese, Will Chow and Logan Wittmann played impressively on the back end, helping goalkeepers Cam Dannecker and Sullivan O’Brien to combine to earn the needed clean sheet.

In the final, Sullivan O’Brien scored twice in the second half to put Orchard Park up and the team held on to win 2-1 despite pressure intense pressure in the closing minutes from the Alleycats.

The team is coached by Scott Maclean, Randy Vincek and Paul Caban and competes in the U14A division of the BWNYJSL.
